Oracy is at the heart of our Britannia curriculum. The importance of being able to communicate effectively is invaluable as a life-long skill and we aim to teach our pupils how to use their oracy skills across the curriculum from EYFS to Year 6, in preparation for life beyond primary school!
At Britannia, we focus on three main oracy skills: being good speakers, listeners and presenters. Oracy is woven explicitly into the whole curriculum, rather than being taught discretely, in order for our pupils to see how these skills are transferable into any situation, educationally and socially.
All classrooms have copies of the age-appropriate oracy posters prominently displayed to support explicit teaching of the oracy skills.
