In 2015, the 193 member states of the United Nations agreed on an action plan to tackle the issues facing our world. The action plan outlined 17 Goals for a sustainable development of our world.
It is important that adults help children make sense of the increasingly globalised, complex and rapidly changing world in which they live. Global Learning enables pupils to think critically about world issues and to develop an awareness of the impact our own actions can have on others. The main aim is to equip young people with the essential knowledge, skills, attitudes and dispositions that will enable them to realise their potential and make a positive contribution to our world.
At Britannia Primary School and Nursery, each half term the children learn about the 17 Global Goals and complete an activity to help their understanding.
Children from across the school have been busy designing their entries for the Britannia Eco Code competition. The Eco Code entry chosen was designed by Phoebe and Oscar in 6JW and will be displayed on the Eco Display board as well as in every classroom from September. Well done Phoebe and Oscar!
The focus this half term in Global Learning has been waste. All year groups have been discussing the meaning of waste and how we may be wasteful at school and home. The children recognised food waste was a common theme and wanted to help share their ideas for reducing food waste with you by designing posters. Please see the attached file of some of our favourites. With the holiday season soon to be upon us we thought it was a particularly pertinent message.
Thank you for taking the time to look through their posters and do ask your children about their learning.
