Britannia's Curriculum

The aim of our Curriculum is to provide an outstanding, bespoke and ambitious education that inspires, engages and develops a lifelong passion for learning. We are committed to ensuring that all children have access to high-quality learning experiences and equal opportunities, regardless of gender, race, cultural or social background, religious beliefs, physical characteristics or educational needs. Equality, inclusion and belonging are fundamental to our curriculum and reflect our whole-school commitment to providing every child with the opportunity to succeed and thrive.

At Britannia, our school vision is at the very heart of our curriculum: to develop responsible citizens, confident individuals and independent learners. Our curriculum is therefore designed to be aspirational, inclusive and ambitious, enabling children to acquire the knowledge, skills and character needed for success in school and beyond.

Central to both our curriculum and behaviour curriculum are our 4Rs: Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Reflection. These values are carefully embedded throughout learning and school life, helping pupils to develop positive learning behaviours, strong relationships and a sense of personal accountability. Through the consistent promotion of the 4Rs, pupils learn to respect themselves and others, take responsibility for their learning and actions, demonstrate resilience when faced with challenges, and reflect on their experiences to continually improve.

• Independent Learners
  Our curriculum demonstrates clear progression across all subjects, woven together through our Britannia Curriculum Concepts. This research-informed approach encourages all pupils, regardless of their academic ability or special educational needs, to become independent learners through recurring themes, knowledge and skills. The curriculum fosters resilience, encouraging pupils to embrace challenge, persevere and develop confidence in their own abilities.

• Confident Individuals
  The cyclical nature of our curriculum supports pupils in becoming confident individuals. They recognise conceptual links across subjects and regularly revisit and build upon previously acquired knowledge and skills across lessons, units and year groups. Through opportunities to reflect on their learning, pupils develop greater self-awareness and are empowered to take ownership of their progress.

• Responsible Citizens
  Our curriculum actively promotes the development of responsible citizens, both within school and the wider community. Through subjects and experiences such as Oracy, RSHE, Wonder Wood and Global Learning, pupils learn the importance of making informed choices, showing respect for others, valuing diversity, and understanding their responsibilities as local and global citizens.

Our subject leaders have carefully designed our bespoke, oracy-rich curriculum and curriculum concepts to meet the needs of our pupils. We strive to provide a curriculum that develops deep knowledge and progressively builds skills from EYFS to Year 6, preparing children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

We pride ourselves on using high-quality formative and summative assessment to ensure that every child is appropriately supported and challenged to achieve their full potential.
