BRITANNIA'S ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT

At Britannia, we are committed to providing an inclusive environment where all pupils can achieve their full potential. We believe that every child has the right to access a broad, balanced and enriching education, regardless of disability, special educational needs, medical needs or additional barriers to learning.

We are committed to promoting equality of opportunity and fostering a culture of respect, inclusion and belonging. Our school values, including our 4Rs of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Reflection, underpin our approach to ensuring that all members of our school community are valued and supported.

Our Commitment

We aim to:

Ensure that all pupils can access and participate fully in school life.
Remove barriers that may prevent pupils from engaging in learning and wider school activities.
Provide an environment that is welcoming, safe and accessible for all.
Promote positive attitudes towards diversity, equality and inclusion.
Work closely with pupils, parents, carers and external agencies to meet individual needs.
Ensure pupils with disabilities are not treated less favourably than other members of the school community.

Improving Access to Learning

We continually review and develop our provision to ensure that the curriculum is accessible to all pupils. This includes:

Adapted teaching and learning approaches.
Reasonable adjustments to classroom practice and learning resources.
The use of assistive technology and specialised equipment where appropriate.
Targeted interventions and adult support.
Specialist advice from external professionals and support services.
Adaptations to educational visits, extracurricular activities and enrichment opportunities to maximise participation.

Improving the Physical Environment

We are committed to improving the physical environment of the school to enable greater access for pupils, staff, parents and visitors with disabilities. This includes:

Accessible entrances and routes around the school site.
A hearing loop in the main office reception area.
Three accessible toilet facilities.
Visible fire alarms for hard of hearing (in parts of the school).
Lift from ground to first floor.
Access to two parking spaces for Blue Badge holders.
Clear signage and appropriate lighting.
Adaptations to classrooms and learning spaces where required.
Consideration of accessibility requirements during future building developments and refurbishment projects.

Improving Access to Information

We recognise that information should be accessible to everyone. Where required, we will make information available in alternative formats and work with families to ensure communication is effective and inclusive. This includes:

Providing information in large print or alternative formats.
Using visual supports and communication aids.
Supporting families who may require assistance accessing written information.
Maintaining clear and accessible communication through meetings, newsletters and digital platforms.

Working in Partnership

We value the views of our pupils, parents, carers and professionals and recognise that effective partnerships are essential in supporting accessibility and inclusion. We regularly consult with stakeholders when reviewing our provision and seek feedback to help us continually improve.

Britannia's Governing Body has a nominated governor, who regularly liaises with the school's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator.

Accessibility Plan

The school maintains an Accessibility Plan, which outlines how we will:

Increase access to the curriculum for pupils with disabilities.
Improve the physical environment of the school.
Improve the availability of accessible information for pupils, parents and visitors.
